Goji berries also make you sleep better, so you wake up with lots of energy the next morning.
How to consume goji berries?
You can mix these sweet berries into your yoghurt or porridge, add them to salads or eat them separately as a snack. You can also make goji tea by steeping the berries in hot water/spiced tea for 5-10 minutes.
The Goji Tree (Goji)
The goji tree is a shrub/tree on which the goji berry grows and originates from China. This tree was introduced to Europe in the 18th century. The long, curved branches are covered with thorns. The leaves are grey-green and the flowers purple. The berries are about 2 cm long and orange-red in colour. Before they are dried, they are rich in juice and burst quickly.
The goji tree can withstand all weather conditions, varying between -26℃ in winter and 40℃ in summer. After a growth period of 2 years, the first berries are formed. Goji berries are grown on a plantation along the Yellow River in China. In this area, 3000 trees are planted per hectare, where they grow in width. The trees grow to about 1 metre high and produce 1 kilogram of goji berries per season.
Nutrients and use
These goji berries are dried and 100% organic. They are red in colour and taste sweet and sour. Due to the drying process, the goji berries have very concentrated nutrients. All this makes the goji berry the richest fruit in the world, a real superfood.
The goji berry can be consumed in different ways. The berry itself can be consumed as a snack. It can also be boiled in water and used as a tea.
