What are superfoods anyway? All you need to know about superfoods

Superfoods is an all-in-one collective term for both edible fruits and plants that possess essential nutrients. These essential nutrients include proteins, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, amino and fatty acids, and antioxidants. All of these nutrients contribute to good health.

A boost for your body

Superfoods are available as a product in itself: for example, a banana, a cup of berries, or a pack of nuts in the supermarket, but at Naturaplaza you will also find superfood powder: these indispensable nutrients in concentrate. You can easily mix superfood powder in drinks, smoothies, and yogurts, or in a hot meal.

100% natural

The superfoods are 100% natural: free from all forms of flavouring, fragrance, as well as preservatives. Superfoods contain numerous essential substances for a healthy, strong body and have versatile effects - numerous health claims are attributed to them.

What types of superfoods are there?

There are many different types of superfoods, including superfruits and supergreens (which are vegetables). There are also what are called superfoods and superseeds. Superfoods are used, among other things, in supermoothies.

Also various 'rawfoods', such as hemp seeds, birch juice, and almond flour qualify for the term superfood. Superfoods give you a longer-lasting energy boost than coffee or artificial energy drinks ever could.

Examples of superfoods

Typical examples of superfoods include cocoa beans, wheatgrass, and goji berries. Red grapes, blueberries, fatty fish (full of omega 3 fatty acids), garlic, specific nuts, and dark chocolate are also counted as superfoods.

Superfoods are packed with healthy nutrients, but there is not one kind of food that contains all the substances you need. It is important to apply many variations in your diet: eat according to the five-slice pie chart!

Positive properties superfoods

It is certainly true that a healthy diet helps maintain a healthy lifestyle that health problems as far as possible in the bud. It is indeed true that a good diet can improve your mood and make you feel fitter. In the end, that's what it's all about: being comfortable in your own skin and doing so with minimal effort.

Five-slice pie chart

Many of the products described as superfoods fall within the five-slice pie chart used by the Dutch Nutrition Centre. It concerns mostly everyday products such as garlic, onions, different types of cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, certain nuts, green tea, olive oil, and oily fish.

Don't snack too much!

As with all good things, enjoy and use in moderation. There is evidence that cocoa and dark chocolate can have a beneficial effect on blood vessels, but that doesn't mean you should eat chocolate on a large scale. Chocolate is full of fat and, of course, remains a fattening food. Furthermore, you should not consume goji berries if you are pregnant.
