Where does bay laurel come from?

Laurel originally grows in the eastern Mediterranean, around Greece and Turkey.

Laurel leaf is edible but hardly anyone does. The taste is released when you cook them in a sauce, pasta or soup. Usually only dried bay leaf is used in dishes. This cut variety is suitable for use in tea (mixes).
