Spice up your meat with BBQ rubs & Herbs

If you're looking to add some extra flavour to your barbecue, grilling with herbs is a great way to do it. There are a variety of grill-friendly herbs that can really spice up your meat, so get creative and experiment with different combinations. Some of our favourite grill herbs include rosemary, thyme, oregano, and basil.

What is rub?

If you're looking for even more flavour, try using a dry rub before grilling. A dry rub is a mixture of spices that are rubbed into the meat before cooking. This not only adds flavour, but also helps to create a crispy crust on the outside of the meat.

There are endless combinations of spices that can be used for a dry rub, so feel free to experiment with our large assortment of individual herbs and spices until you find a combination that you like. A chicken rub can be used on chicken, of course, but also works great on pork and fish. For beef, you'll want to use a meat rub.

Make your own bbq rub

Dry rubs are easy to make at home, or you can purchase them already prepared. If you're making your own bbq herbs, it's best to mix the spices together and then store them in an airtight container so they'll be ready to use the next time you grill.

  • To use a dry rub, simply sprinkle it generously over the meat and then rub it in with your fingers. Be sure to cover all sides of the meat, including any nooks and crannies.
  • Once the meat is covered in the dry rub, you can either grill it right away or let it sit for a while so the flavours have a chance to really sink in.
  • If you have the time, we recommend letting it sit for at least 30 minutes, but even just a few minutes will make a difference.
