Cordyceps is a fungus and belongs to the genus Ophiocordyceps. The name Cordyceps comes from Ancient Greek and means club. And in Latin it means head. Cordyceps is a parasitic fungus. It grows on a host. The hosts of the cordyceps are the larvae and caterpillars of insects.

The Cordyceps is a traditionally used mushroom in China, which grows at an altitude of 3000 to 5000 metres in the mountain ranges of Tibet in humid environments. Cordyceps is quite rare in the wild. For centuries, the ancient Chinese collected the remains of cordyceps and its host, dried them and used them in traditional medicines.
